| About BITS Pty Limited |
|
BITS Pty Limited was registered in March 1993 and brought on the talents of a small team of technically capable personel to service the needs of the digital imaging professionals.
Specialising in the computer hardware and software components required to produce presentation quality computer graphic output, in the form of photographic film, thermal and ink transfer to paper and other hard media, and image projection, BITS became a key supplier to the Imaging Service Bureaus and Hospital Illustration Units.
The unique requirements of the time in terms of processing power, speed and huge digital data files kept us at the forefront of cutting edge computing technology.
Concentrating on digital imaging and presentation output led BITS to some complimentry vertical markets such as, diagnostic imaging and data capture, large format printing for the CAD and poster making markets, backup and storage markets and general high-end desktop computers and servers.
Of course this led to acquring a unique talent in the diagnosis and repair of a lot of the forementioned products, software and hardware integration skills, support and training and expert pre sales advice.
The commercialisation of desktop based publishing combined with a decrease in the cost of the equipment brought a flood of new computer "start-up" businesses which helped to bring a computer on the desk of almost every office worker.
BITS Pty Limited was one of the first computer companies to have an internet presence, and had our first offerings for sale on the internet around 1995. In 1996 we began offering modem based access to the internet with our "shop built" modem racks - a large bookshelf with multiple rows of USRobotics V56 modems, all hard-wired together to a custom built power supply. The flashing lights of all the modems where enough to light up our store room!
During 1995 BITS started importing products from companies that offered unique and high quality input and output devices. Codonics was one of our first suppliers with a UNIX based dye sublimation printer - aimed squarley at the medical markets with vertical pushes into CAD and presentation graphic professionals.
The MicroScribe 3D from Immersion Corporation caught our eye - a 3 dimensional input device for capturing surface data from a physical object for 3D model creation. We continue to represent Immersion Corporation in Australia & New Zealand and our sales of 3D Digitising Systems continues to grow.
We have represented many small companies with their unique products, such as:
We continue to investigate new products and maintain our focus on distributing "world class" products from Immersion, Addonics and Micronet. We still maintain our Internet Access business and provide hosting and domain management services. We have a very successful on-line shopping site which is now (2008), in it's 13th year of operation - albeit with a large number of cosmetic and functional changes. |
